ICFJ Knight Fellow

ICFJ-Knight fellow in India Meera K has worked in the community and urban newsmedia space for over a decade, and has also supported projects in e-governance and civic tech. She co-founded Citizen Matters, an award winning digital news media with insightful reporting on critical urban issues, ideas and solutions for cities, and local channels for civic journalism and community engagement.

 Citizen Matters, Bengaluru has been recognized as a pioneer of community journalism for investigating the many realities of the city, exposing inconvenient truths, interpreting what's really going on and engaging citizen problem solvers.

She also helped initiateOpen City, an urban data platform, and Co Media Lab, a community newsroom and resource centre. Meera is a founder trustee at the Oorvani Foundation, a non-profit trust for a free and independent media.

Meera is also an Ashoka Fellow, recognised for her work building open knowledge platforms that allow citizens to collaborate and improve their cities. Meera has a background in technology and spent over a decade in the product development space.
